Granero, Benzema, The Papita, Kaka, Ronaldo and the fearsome captain of all Raul will continue and keep up this performance. End of the season tittle will be ours..LONG LIVE REAL MADRID..HAIL THE GALACTICOS...

Benzema Classy Form

Real Madrid prevented Barca increasing their advantage in the Primera Liga table with a 3-1 victory against Deportivo La Coruna at the Estadio Riazor.

Esteban Granero headed the visitors in front and France striker Karim Benzema slotted home the second five minutes before half-time after an exquisite back-heel from Guti deceived the Depor defence.

The hosts pulled one back with four minutes to go when Riki fell under a challenge from Sergio Ramos, and the former Real Madrid man got up and tucked the penalty past Iker Casillas himself.

But Benzema made sure of the points in the first minute of stoppage time when he rifled home a low shot after Alvaro Arbeloa laid the ball back to him from the right-hand side of the box.

Pedro's goal proved enough to secure a 1-0 win for Barcelona against Sporting Gijon at El Molinon which maintained their five-point lead over bitter rivals Real Madrid at the top of the Primera Division.

The Tenerife-born winger struck after half an hour to give Barca the lead. He latched onto Andres Iniesta's pass and kept his cool to fire past Sporting goalkeeper Juan Pablo Colinas at the near post.

Lower down the table, Luis Garcia's second-half strike gave Espanyol a much-needed victory at home to Athletic Bilbao.

The Barcelona-based side came up against an inspired Gorka Iraizoz in the first half, with the Athletic goalkeeper denying his former club with several fine saves.

But the Catalans' constant pressure finally paid off 13 minutes into the second half, when Luis Garcia struck the winner to give Mauricio Pochettino's side a welcome boost following their recent dismal run.

Van der Vaart set to miss rest of January

Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be out for the rest of the month after suffering a calf injury during Monday night's home win over Real Mallorca.

The Dutchman was replaced just 21 minutes into the contest at the Bernabeu after sustaining the problem in his left leg and, following tests this morning, Madrid have confirmed he is likely to be out for between ``two to three weeks''.

Having already been knocked out of the Copa del Rey before Christmas, Madrid only have three more games in January, facing Athletic Bilbao and Deportivo La Coruna away, as well as hosting Malaga.

Madrid are two points behind leaders Barcelona at the top of the Primera Division standings.

Madrid blow as Higuain ruled out for three weeks

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain will be absent for nearly a month, the Primera Division side have confirmed.

Higuain has been in outstanding form this season and put in another impressive performance at the weekend, scoring one goal and setting up the other as Madrid beat Mallorca 2-0.

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes on Sunday night but tests have revealed he has sustained a left foot injury that will sideline him around three weeks.

Higuain's injury comes as a big blow to Madrid, with the youngster having scored 11 goals in his last 10 matches. It should see more playing time given to Karim Benzema, who admitted on Monday to feeling somewhat frustrated with his current role as substitute at the Spanish giants.

Having already been knocked out of the Copa del Rey before Christmas, Madrid only have three more games in January, facing Athletic Bilbao and Deportivo La Coruna away, as well as hosting Malaga.

Madrid, who will also be without injured midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, are two points behind leaders Barcelona at the top of the Primera Division standings.
